If that is the case the auto wiper mode isn't working as I've driven the car in the rain with the wipers set in intermittent or auto mode and other than the initial pass when turned on they don't do anything until I move the control to either low, high or turn off the intermittent/auto mode and turn it back on.
It's the recognition that Asymmetric always on AWD is the gold standard. Comparatively, reactive systems are not quite as good.I can attest to this first hand as my AWD 3 in no way handles the same as my Subaru's in the dirt or snow, rain (or dry) and I cannot drive it in that way, because the AWD isn't always there.

snowball. I'm pretty sure the sensitivity setting does not affect wiper speed -- the down pour has to be quite significant in order for the wipers to go into hi mode on their own, in my experience. TL;DR - Replace the gel between the sensor and the windshield. If the windshield had been replaced at some point, they may have screwed up the gel and the sensor stops working. Clean the sensor and windshield with alcohol, replace with a generic type off rockauto, and you're golden. It smells like a fat guys asshole though.
